Covered in Creams: A Dry Gal's Guide to Moisture and Skincare.
To say that I have dry skin would be an understatement. I’ve always had cracked heels, chapped lips, and rough hands, elbows, and knees (please don’t get me started on dandruff). And then there’s the matter of my face. I was lucky enough to avoid any serious issues with youthful acne (except occasional hormonal blemishes) but it came at a price. My skin fought hard against bacteria and buildup, but sacrificed it’s healthy glow and inherent smoothness in the battle.
Very recently, I have found a way to balance out my skin - and not just the skin on my face. Suddenly there’s no flakes on my face, my legs and arms have a healthy texture, my elbows and knees aren’t road blocks, and my heels feel like they can breathe again. I still haven’t found the perfect combination for my lips, though.
What I’ve figured out…
Moisturize daily. This may seem like a no-brainer to most of you, but I was never taught to moisturize my face and body on a day-to-day basis. Once I hit my mid-teens my mom told me I should moisturize after I shower. And that’s all I knew.
For my face: Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer (In the morning)
Lush 9-5 Cleansing Lotion (Before Bed)
Lush Eua Roma Water (After 9-5)
For my hands: Lush Smitten Hand Cream (Before I leave the house and right before bed)
L’Occtaine Shea Butter Hand Cream (Throughout the day)
For all the rest: Burt’s Bees Honey & Shea Butter Body Butter (For after the shower)
Victoria’s Secret Drenched In Pink Body Lotion in Warm and Cozy (Before bed)
So maybe I’ve gone a little overboard, but maybe I haven’t. My skin feels great, especially my hands and my face. Let me know what works for you, and PLEASE let me know if you would like a review of any/all of the products listed!
Maybe it was the post on neon’s from College Prep, maybe it’s the amazing pedicure I got on monday, either way I have been obsessed with nail polish (sometimes called nail varnish) and especially Essie. I smell a haul coming…
I’ve never been the kind of girl who worried about her fingers and toes matching. I generally wear much bolder, brighter, and darker colours on my toes, and more demure colours on my hands. For the past two years I’ve had bare fingernails all through the spring and summer due to waitressing jobs that didn’t allow nail polish. Now that I work at J.Crew I’ve been a little more daring with my finger nails, but I still don’t worry too much about matching.
I’m kind of in love with my current pairing, a bold & bright pink with a subtle mint green, all thanks to Essie.
I just wanted to let the contest winners know that I have NOT sent out the covers yet. I didn’t realise I had to send them with like, shipping and not just stamps, so they got bounced back to me from the post office :( they just showed up at my house today, and since tomorrow is Sunday I won’t be able to get to the post office until Monday!
Im about to have my hair cut & colored tomorrow (probably getting a rich brown w/ a red tint). I have fair skin w/yellow undertones and since i'll now have a new hair color what eyeshadow shades would you recommend for me? Thanks :)
I would love to know what colour eyes you have, but without knowing that here are some “safer” recommendations!
So my Lush package finally came! I’m going to review each and every product I got once I actually use them, but here’s what I plan on using today!
- Gold, Frankincense, and Beer Shower Jelly - Snake Oil Scalp Treatment - 9 to 5 Cleansing Lotion - Eau Roma Water Toner - Randy Butter - Smitten Hand Cream (I’m already totally in love with this. I’ve used it twice and my hands feel like silk!)
Don’t worry, I’m not about to post this giant list of every single thing I got for my birthday, just the things that are relevant! Great ideas for Valentine’s Day, lads. Some of these were gifts, and some of these I bought with money I received for my birthday.
Preppy Princess Perfume by Vera Wang My wonderful younger sister bought this for me, since she knew just how much I wanted it. It smells SO GOOD, it smells different enough from the original to justify owning both, and the packaging is adorable. It smells clean and sweet, but not too sweet! It really is a very girly scent without getting that gross “perfume” smell that some perfumes have.
Elsa Peretti® Open Heart pendant from Tiffany&Co My adoring boyfriend bought this for me (admittedly, at my suggestion) and I adore it. I had to exchange the chain for a longer one this morning and the ladies at Tiffany were so helpful and nice, they said they would come visit me at work! It’s a very small pendant, smaller than a dime. I love how delicate the chain is. The Tiffany necklace I used to wear every day (the necklace - the chain) had a fairly thick, beaded chain. This necklace feels much more mature, and I absolutely adore it.
Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in 115 I bought this for myself and I quite like it. It DOES make your face oily, but my skin is so dry that is actually a welcome side effect. I would NOT recommend this foundation for anyone with combination or oily skin. I haven’t experienced any breakouts yet, but I will let you know and do a full review after I’ve used it for longer than just a few days.
Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in “Kiss” I’m not crazy about the colour of this lipstick, it’s a lot brighter than I thought it was going to be, and a lot pinker than the label looked while I was in the store. However, the finish and staying power is awesome for a $5 lipstick and if I apply it lightly with a warm-toned lipgloss it works pretty well. I definitely reccomend this line of lipsticks. I was happily suprised by it because I don’t like their purple-packaged lipsticks, Moisture Renew (I think) because I actually find them to be quite drying.
