So, I picked up three things from Chapter One of Tartan Tale.
Beauties Play it Cool Eyeshadow Palette
Lord it Up Pearlglide Eyeliner
Style Clan Nail Varnish
The only thing that I am sure that I’m going to keep is the eyeliner. I was seriously disappointed in the eyeshadow kit. The included brush was completely useless, and the shadows were not very pigmented. The shadows also looked much darker on me than I had expected. The swatches that were posted online were gorgeous but they just don’t work for me. I don’t really do dark eyeshadow looks because I have very fair skin and small eyes.
As for the Style Clan Nail Varnish, I had very high hopes. It looked really pretty in the bottle and online. When I painted my nails with it last night, it was just too dark. Like with my eyes, I don’t like to wear very dark polish. It just looks too ‘Goth’ against my skin, and since I work at J.Crew, that isn’t the image I’m supposed to purport. I also didn’t like the quality of the polish and the wand. When I opened the bottle, the bristles were going every which way. The colour would have been perfect if I didn’t have to do three coats to get even coverage. This polish will definitely work for someone else, it just doesn’t work for me.
I have only swatched the Lord it Up Pearlglide, but I can already tell that I am going to love it. The colour is amazing, I love the sparkles, and the lasting power is AMAZING. I tried to wash it off my arm with my makeup remover wipes, and it wouldn’t completely go away. Even after I showered this morning, there is still a faint impression on my forearm.
I might return the Polish and the Eyeshadow in exchange for something else, but I don’t really know what to exchange it for. I like the Reelers and Rockers kit, but for $36 I would be getting six NOT full sized shadows in shades similar to a lot of the ones I will be getting from the UD Naked Palette.
I wanted to see the Tartan Tale collection - but my little store only had the kits on display (Eye, Face, Lip) which kind of bummed me out, because I was planning on pre-ordering more than just the Beauties Play It Cool Eye Kit, but I won’t buy anything before I swatch it on my skin. So when I go pick up my order next Thursday I’ll play around. THE BEST NEWS is that they still have Devilishly Stylish lipglass in stock! I didn’t have enough moohla on me today to pick it up, but hopefully it will still be there next week.
I did get Gingerly (blush) and Satin Taupe (eyeshadow) though! I am also thinking about getting an empty palette so I can de-pot all my eyeshadows. But I might get a Z Palette rather than a MAC palette.
P.S. - Pictures/Review of the homemade eyeshadow base/primer should be up tonight!
So, I made my own eyeshadow primer/base last night.
And it turned out pretty good! It’s basically the lovechild of UD Primer Potion (in Sin) and Sephora’s Primer Pot. It’s goopy and yet not exactly a liquid. I’ll probably mess with it a bit more, but it smells really good and works pretty well. I’ll put up a picture when I get home.
SO! I am really excited for this collection, even though I will not be getting a ton of products from it. This stems partially from my 1 month unemployment, partially to the fact that my car is at the garage and Lord knows how much that is going to cost me, and because although I like the idea behind almost all of the products, a lot of them don’t suit me.
I love the packaging SO MUCH. My dad has a kilt (we’re an 8th Scottish), and I want to steal it now.
So, I’ve decided to get three things.
Sir Teddy All the proceeds ($15) from this bear go to Kids Helping Kids, which is a charity helping AIDS sufferers.
Beauties Play It Cool Eyeshadow Palette Heather Belles - Dark charcoal (Satin) To the Ball - Dusty lavender (Satin) Hold My Gaze- Medium grey (Frost) Magic Moor - Purple grape (Veluxe Pearl) Altered State - Blackened plum (Veluxe Pearl) Silverwear - Metallic lavender (Frost)
And then I have a “wildcard” item. I want to go to the store and swatch things. I want to be able to explore a little bit. I might go up on Monday between classes and pre-order these two things and then poke about the other stuff.
Notes: Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the actual shirt I’m going to wear tomorrow online. This is VERY close, but the shirt I’m going to wear isn’t sheer, and doesn’t have the bib detail. It’s just a tank top/cap sleeve tshirt with a split v-neck, in this exact pattern with a subtle ruffle on the bottom, and the sleeves sort of start as ruffles, if that makes sense.
I also de-constructed the necklace a little, and I’m going to wear the pearl strand wrapped around my wrist as a bracelet. I also have matching earrings that I couldn’t find a picture of.
I also don’t own a LV bag or ray bans. I have mock tortoiseshell wayfarers I’m going to wear, and a knock of LV bag (Tacky, I know) that is similar to the one I put here.

So today I’ll be getting rid of some of my drugstore makeup because most of it is NOT cruelty free.
I realized that I never even thought about my shampoo, so I think I’m going to splurge a little (I just got a job, waiting to see if I got the one at JCrew still) and go to Lush and get some really nice shampoo/conditioner.
It’s like a half an hour away, but with how much their shipping costs it’s acutally cheaper for me to drive my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee (Read: Gas Guzzler) all the way there than it is to have it sent to me.
