Today I went to the mall with the idea that I just wanted to look at a new camera, and pick up a new nail polish.
The camera I wanted to look at (Samsung SH100) wasn’t in stock :( but I was wandering around Target waiting for the mall to open (I was up and out the door early this morning) and I came across this beautiful deal: Will & Grace Seasons One & Two for $9.99!! Um, YES! Karen Walker is my idol and I can’t believe I didn’t already own the show on DVD - especially since it’s not available on Netflix Instant.
THEN the mall opened, so I resisted the urge to go to Sephora (I honestly don’t know how I managed that) and I went to the Beauty Plus Salon where I get all my nail polish and I honest to blog spent 30 minutes starting at the nude nail polishes because I didn’t know which one to pick. They don’t have testers so I was googling swatches and finally decided on Topless & Barefoot by Essie. BUT THEN I walked over to the registers and something caught my eye… The China Glaze Anchors Aweigh collection. And what was right there? Sunset Sail. A beautiful peachy-nude (all over the runways) and a gorgeous shimmy gold color called Knotty. And then I couldn’t resist picking up a bottle of OPI Black Shatter which I probably will never wear, but my sister absolutely will.
Now I have to go to Radio Shack to look for that camera, but I’ll post swatches of the polishes this week!
I have a problem with Bath and Body Works. I can spend 45 minutes in that store, and since there’s always a great sale going on, I don’t feel guilty when I buy things. These are some of my favourites, and some things I’ve just discovered.
"Pocket-Bacs" I’m a cashier, and money is ridiculously dirty, so we always have purell at the registers. However, I abhor the smell of purell, and I don’t like how dry it leaves my skin. I’ve started buying these every month and leaving them at the register bay for everyone to use. These are the staff favourites.
Travel-Sized Fragrance Mists I don’t wear these like a perfume, I keep them in my car. I like to mist them a few times a day to keep my car smelling delicious, and sometimes I spritz them in my hair so that it smells super nice as well. These are my favourites.
Japanese Cherry Blossom
'Summertime Vanillas' - Coconut Vanilla
Other My personal favourite moisturizing soap isn’t on the website right now, but its’ the same Summer Coconut Vanilla as the body mist, and the soap itself is this great silver colour.
Fresh Market Apple Moisturizing Soap - sometimes you can get this in a novelty container that’s shaped like a big red apple!
Creamy Body Scrub - Hawaii Coconut. I recieved this for free when I last went to B&BW and I love it. The exfoliating beads are really fine, and it feels like you’re exfoliating with sand. That sounds a little odd, but it really is lovely. Combined with the scent, it’s like taking a shower at the beach!
Revlon Cream Blush in Soft Rose I picked this up today because Revlon products were Buy 1 Get 1 Half Off, and I knew I was getting a lipstick. I don’t have a nice neutral blush, and I have been wanting to try the revlon cream blushes for a while.
Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Soft Nude This lipstick in ‘Soft Rose’ has become my absolute favourite lip colour, and I don’t have a nude lipstick.
EOS Smooth Sphere in Summer Fruit I already had and loved this, but I left it at work a few weeks ago and I couldn’t find it - my lips were screaming for a replacement! I had my softlips, but I honestly don’t like that nearly as much.
L’Oreal Felt Tip Liner Another replacement. I’ve been using this since January, and I use it nearly every single day. Mine has started to dry out, so I wanted to get a back-up before I got desperate.
Garnier Nutritioniste Nutri-Pure Detoxifying Wet Cleansing Towelettes These are my all-time favourite makeup remover wipes. They are SO gentle and they’re very wet wipes so you don’t have to use a lot of pressure on your eyes. They smell good, too.
Covered in Creams: A Dry Gal's Guide to Moisture and Skincare.
To say that I have dry skin would be an understatement. I’ve always had cracked heels, chapped lips, and rough hands, elbows, and knees (please don’t get me started on dandruff). And then there’s the matter of my face. I was lucky enough to avoid any serious issues with youthful acne (except occasional hormonal blemishes) but it came at a price. My skin fought hard against bacteria and buildup, but sacrificed it’s healthy glow and inherent smoothness in the battle.
Very recently, I have found a way to balance out my skin - and not just the skin on my face. Suddenly there’s no flakes on my face, my legs and arms have a healthy texture, my elbows and knees aren’t road blocks, and my heels feel like they can breathe again. I still haven’t found the perfect combination for my lips, though.
What I’ve figured out…
Moisturize daily. This may seem like a no-brainer to most of you, but I was never taught to moisturize my face and body on a day-to-day basis. Once I hit my mid-teens my mom told me I should moisturize after I shower. And that’s all I knew.
For my face: Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer (In the morning)
Lush 9-5 Cleansing Lotion (Before Bed)
Lush Eua Roma Water (After 9-5)
For my hands: Lush Smitten Hand Cream (Before I leave the house and right before bed)
L’Occtaine Shea Butter Hand Cream (Throughout the day)
For all the rest: Burt’s Bees Honey & Shea Butter Body Butter (For after the shower)
Victoria’s Secret Drenched In Pink Body Lotion in Warm and Cozy (Before bed)
So maybe I’ve gone a little overboard, but maybe I haven’t. My skin feels great, especially my hands and my face. Let me know what works for you, and PLEASE let me know if you would like a review of any/all of the products listed!
Maybe it was the post on neon’s from College Prep, maybe it’s the amazing pedicure I got on monday, either way I have been obsessed with nail polish (sometimes called nail varnish) and especially Essie. I smell a haul coming…
I’ve never been the kind of girl who worried about her fingers and toes matching. I generally wear much bolder, brighter, and darker colours on my toes, and more demure colours on my hands. For the past two years I’ve had bare fingernails all through the spring and summer due to waitressing jobs that didn’t allow nail polish. Now that I work at J.Crew I’ve been a little more daring with my finger nails, but I still don’t worry too much about matching.
I’m kind of in love with my current pairing, a bold & bright pink with a subtle mint green, all thanks to Essie.
I just wanted to let the contest winners know that I have NOT sent out the covers yet. I didn’t realise I had to send them with like, shipping and not just stamps, so they got bounced back to me from the post office :( they just showed up at my house today, and since tomorrow is Sunday I won’t be able to get to the post office until Monday!
Im about to have my hair cut & colored tomorrow (probably getting a rich brown w/ a red tint). I have fair skin w/yellow undertones and since i'll now have a new hair color what eyeshadow shades would you recommend for me? Thanks :)
I would love to know what colour eyes you have, but without knowing that here are some “safer” recommendations!
So my Lush package finally came! I’m going to review each and every product I got once I actually use them, but here’s what I plan on using today!
- Gold, Frankincense, and Beer Shower Jelly - Snake Oil Scalp Treatment - 9 to 5 Cleansing Lotion - Eau Roma Water Toner - Randy Butter - Smitten Hand Cream (I’m already totally in love with this. I’ve used it twice and my hands feel like silk!)
Don’t worry, I’m not about to post this giant list of every single thing I got for my birthday, just the things that are relevant! Great ideas for Valentine’s Day, lads. Some of these were gifts, and some of these I bought with money I received for my birthday.
Preppy Princess Perfume by Vera Wang My wonderful younger sister bought this for me, since she knew just how much I wanted it. It smells SO GOOD, it smells different enough from the original to justify owning both, and the packaging is adorable. It smells clean and sweet, but not too sweet! It really is a very girly scent without getting that gross “perfume” smell that some perfumes have.
Elsa Peretti® Open Heart pendant from Tiffany&Co My adoring boyfriend bought this for me (admittedly, at my suggestion) and I adore it. I had to exchange the chain for a longer one this morning and the ladies at Tiffany were so helpful and nice, they said they would come visit me at work! It’s a very small pendant, smaller than a dime. I love how delicate the chain is. The Tiffany necklace I used to wear every day (the necklace - the chain) had a fairly thick, beaded chain. This necklace feels much more mature, and I absolutely adore it.
Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in 115 I bought this for myself and I quite like it. It DOES make your face oily, but my skin is so dry that is actually a welcome side effect. I would NOT recommend this foundation for anyone with combination or oily skin. I haven’t experienced any breakouts yet, but I will let you know and do a full review after I’ve used it for longer than just a few days.
Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in “Kiss” I’m not crazy about the colour of this lipstick, it’s a lot brighter than I thought it was going to be, and a lot pinker than the label looked while I was in the store. However, the finish and staying power is awesome for a $5 lipstick and if I apply it lightly with a warm-toned lipgloss it works pretty well. I definitely reccomend this line of lipsticks. I was happily suprised by it because I don’t like their purple-packaged lipsticks, Moisture Renew (I think) because I actually find them to be quite drying.
I started the spring semester today, and I just didn’t have time to take pictures and set everything.
All the details will be up tomorrow!
The basic outline is you have to be following me, reblog the post that I put up tomorrow, and I’ll use random.org to pick the winner. That’s for “first” place. Second place will be twitter. You have to be following me on Twitter, and re-tweet the message that goes up tomorrow.
I just hit 50 followers (which is not that many in the grand scheme of things, but each of those followers is an actual PERSON which to me is amazing. Fifty whole human beings want to read what I blab about.)
All I have to give away right now are two iPhone 3G/3GS cases that I never used, but no longer have the opportunity to use since I have an iPhone 4.
One of the cases is Lilly Pulitzer and the other one is Lucky Brand. Would ya’ll be interested?
Edit:: Just to clarify, I would be giving them BOTH away to two lovely readers. The first place winner would pick whichever one she wants and then the second place winner would get the other one.
So, I heard some noise outside and then a big truck starting up and I got all excited like “OMG LUSH PACAKGED MUST HAVE BEEN DELIVERED!!!” And I ran downstairs and I could see something by the front door.
This is going to be an installment here, because I work at J.Crew and I’m constantly enamored with things at work.
Wednesday we’re getting in a bunch of new stock, but there were some things that really caught my eye today!
The first thing was a new Timex watch. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find a picture of it online anywhere. I will snap one the next time I am at work. It’s in the style of this watch, but it’s much smaller. It’s about half the diameter, and the face is simpler. We also have adorable interchangeable watchbands.
The second thing was a new pair of SPERRYS! They are the Cormorant Slip-Ons in exclusive colours. We have a bright lemon yellow and a lovely mossy olive green. I was able to snap a picture of the green ones.
Pretty cute, right? I’m planning on getting a pair of these very soon!
Okay. I realize this post makes it seem like I have the taste of a 50 year old woman. I’m sorry. I’ve wanted a Timex Field Watch like that for YEARS and the fact that they have a pint-sized version makes me squiggle about with glee. And as for the shoes, I live up north. We have a LOT of weather, and I can’t wear Ugg boots all winter, and once Spring hits I get tired of wearing Wellies all the time. My calves are a teensy bit too fat for them, and they get really uncomfortable after a few hours.
My skin color is similar to yours and I use Sephora's Sun Disk. Its not too dark or orange and comes in a huge circular palette with a great mirror. It's like $20, I think. I also have their smaller bronzer ($16) in Bora Bora, but you might want to try a lighter color than that. My all time fav bronzer is Kat Von D's, but you might not like it because it does have shimmer. Hope this helps!
Thank you! That’s awesome I’ll definitely be checking that out.
When it comes to shimmer, I LOVE it when it’s summertime and I’m trying to get a sun-kissed glow look, but when it’s just for contouring it makes it look really weird.
